THE WHY | EDITION #1: WOMEN

In the first edition of our new series, THE WHY, we discuss what it means to be an empowered woman, Bianca's journey of empowering women and her hopes for our community.

Scroll on to discover the purpose and vision behind the brand.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO BE AN EMPOWERED WOMAN?

"Being an empowered woman is about freedom and choice. I think that we are in a place where women have not had a choice. Whether it was you had to be a stay-at-home mum, or how you have had to manage juggling work with children, whether it’s you have to be feminine or you have to be masculine in a women’s world. Having a voice for anything in how you want to express yourself, be it the clothes that you wear, the society you live in, or the way that you lead. There is so much scrutiny that women are put under that we need to be liberated from we need to be free to just be."

WHICH EMPOWERED WOMAN DO YOU ADMIRE THE MOST?

“I admire women who really challenge us to think about what the idea about what a woman really is. And really push us to break away from this idea that it's being ultimately feminine or it's about being ultimately masculine. You saw people like Virginia Woolf change the way that you see women. You see Naomi Wolf with The Beauty Myth challenges the way that we think about beauty. We see Yoko Ono who challenges the way that we engage with a woman presenting themselves vulnerably in a space."

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF DOING AS A WOMAN?

“As a woman, I am really proud that I live in a space where I see women thriving and that my days are working with women for women helping women find being empowered, find there voice, be liberated, be free, be expressive and all of the dimensions around that whether it be mothers, whether it be careers, whether it be passion projects I just think all of those layers that we lead that is what attracts me to women and what I want to see really shine.”

HAVE YOU ALWAYS ASPIRED TO CHAMPION WOMEN?

“For me, championing women is an instinct. I am attracted to the female form, in the most basic sense. I love our curves, I love seeing drawing women, looking at all of their nuances. I love how their minds work, how they read, how they write, the music that they make, and the stories that they tell. So, championing them is probably not something that I go “I am championing women” but I am so deeply connected to how they feel and I just want to use that as a force in all of the work that I do. Working with them, around them, for them, it's exciting and it's so layered and it always propels you further. There is a curiosity and an answering of questions that I just love.”

WHAT ARE YOUR HOPES FOR THE BIANCA SPENDER COMMUNITY?

“My hopes for the Bianca Spender community is that we can really lean in. We can support each other, we can champion each other, we can build on each other’s successes and amplify each other’s voices. There is so much room still to grow in our journey as a society."
