Inspired by the idea of unearthing beauty in the everyday and finding joy in getting dressed, we've released a collection of denim wardrobe essentials in collaboration with Nobody Denim. Sustainably made in Australia, the 11-piece collection celebrates Bianca's signature design to elevate the everyday wardrobe. Inspired by Bianca's signature design, styles are delicately draped and precisely tailored in sculptural, eco-conscious Japanese cotton and hemp denim.
We speak with Founder and Creative Director, Bianca Spender on the influences behind the collaboration and the elevation of the everyday wardrobe.
You’re best known for your precise drapery and liberated tailoring. Can you talk us through why you wanted to create denim?
"Despite not being an incredible consumer of denim, I have deep respect for its’ qualities. It’s a fabric that wears with age, moulds to the body, and tells a story – where you wear your wallet, how you bend your knees, how you scuff your hems – each piece in denim almost becomes like a person’s story. It was something I had always admired and never really understood how my signature could adapt to that material."
"I think what is exciting is there are so many ways to do double, triple, quadruple denim but there are also so many ways to pair it with a high-end bustier or throw a trench over a gown. These are the ways I am really having fun with the collection!"
What was it about Nobody Denim that made you want to collaborate with them?
"I’ve always stood by that if I was making denim, it would be in Australia. People told me I was dreaming, and Nobody Denim has been dreaming for decades!
The way that they have developed their manufacturing, washing processes and sustainability initiatives, they have proven all the people that say you can’t do this in Australia wrong. They have an incredible respect in the industry that I felt was a perfect synergy for us as a leader in the design and sustainable and ethical practices."
How are you looking forward to wearing the collection?
"This collection is going to become the one that I never knew how I lived without!
I think what is exciting is there are so many ways to do double, triple, and quadruple denim but there are also so many ways to pair it with a high-end bustier or throw a trench over a gown. These are the ways I am really having fun with the collection!
The look I am most excited to wear is the Oxford Blue Rocha Top, Sky Libretto Pant and Sky Silk Ode Top. There’s something about all the blues together that is just a dream!
Effortless and refined at the same time, the other look I am dying to wear is the Chalk Curvature Skirt with a bustier from the mainline collection.
I’ve also been loving wearing a gown with a denim trench. I am a woman who was into maxi dresses before they were a thing. It’s an excuse to wear a gown and not have everyone tell me I am so overdressed all the time!"
