BEHIND THE RUNWAY | RESORT 27

Models on runaway for Bianca Spender

Prior to our Resort 27 show we sat down with Bianca Spender, Founder & Creative Director to talk process, perspective and the collection that has been months in the making.

Scroll on to read Bianca's thoughts on Resort 27, the ideas that shaped it, and what it means to send a collection into the world.

IN THE FINAL DAYS BEFORE THE SHOW, WHAT DID THE STUDIO FEEL LIKE?

“There’s always an intensity in the final days before a runway, but this season the studio felt incredibly focused and connected. There was a real sense of calm confidence across the team, where everyone deeply understood the world we were trying to create and the emotion behind the collection.

I love those final moments where garments are moving constantly between fittings, styling and adjustments, while conversations are happening all around the room. Despite the pace, there was something very grounded and collaborative about this season. It felt emotional in a really beautiful way.”

WHAT WERE YOU LISTENING TO WHILE BRINGING THE COLLECTION TO LIFE?

“Working on the soundtrack with our music director is always one of my favourite parts of the runway process. I love collaborating to build a soundscape that reflects the emotional world of the collection and evolves alongside it. In the lead-up to the show, I was listening to different iterations of the track on repeat in the studio.

It really helped immerse me in the atmosphere of the collection during those final stages of development. Music has such a powerful way of shaping emotion and movement, and it became part of the rhythm of the studio each day.”

WHAT PART OF BRINGING THE RUNWAY WORLD TO LIFE EXCITED YOU MOST THIS SEASON?

“Pulling the show together this season felt very different from previous years. Across myself and the team there was such clarity and cohesion in what we wanted to communicate, both emotionally and visually. I’m always excited by the evolution that happens within each collection, but this season I was particularly drawn to the way we approached styling.

The layering felt instinctive and expressive, with garments wrapped, softened and worn in unexpected ways. It introduced a different perspective on dressing that felt very aligned with the spirit of the collection and the women we design for.”

WHAT DOES "QUIET REBELLION" MEAN TO YOU NOW THAT THE SHOW HAS COME TO LIFE"

“For me, quiet rebellion speaks to the idea of meeting difficult moments with softness. It’s about resilience that doesn’t need to shout, and the belief that beauty can still emerge in challenging conditions. That idea stayed with me throughout the entire process of developing the collection. Much like the garments themselves, the meaning behind the collection continued to evolve as we worked.

Seeing it finally come to life within the runway environment, through movement, sound, casting and emotion, felt incredibly powerful. It became less about a concept and more about a feeling.”

In the weeks before a show, as pieces are refined and the collection finds its final form, music becomes part of the rhythm of the studio. A constant presence, shaping the pieces and bringing the emotional world of the collection to life, long before it steps onto the runway.
