BEHIND THE RUNWAY: BEAUTY

Step behind the scenes of our Australian Fashion Week Show and discover the beauty vision that shaped every look. The stylistic direction was built upon weaving elements of liquid form, contoured ripples and whispers of water throughout both the hair and makeup.

Scroll to explore the artistry and the backstage moments that defined the show's signature look.

An homage to rising to the surface, Shark Beauty curated a collection of five hair looks throughout the presentation. Chris Hunter, Hair Director for Shark Beauty, crafted a textural wet-look, rooted in effortless architectural form.

"The hair direction for Bianca Spender's show was all about a refined, dewy, texture - like you've just emerged from water, but with a modern, elevated edge. We kept hair slicked back off the face with a soft, effortless finish - never crunchy or overdone. The texture transitions beautifully from wet-look roots to a drier, more natural finish through the lengths, enchancing the individuality of each model's hair. We used the Shark Beauty SpeedStyle with the diffuser attachment to gently set the shape, then finished with the RapidGloss Finisher attachment for extra shine and polish. This approach really speaks to Shark Beauty's ethos of 'For All Hairkind' - celebrating the natural beauty of every hair tyoe by working with its unique texture, not against it."

John Pulitano, Hair Director for O&M, created sculpted waves, infused with tidal rhythm. The choreography of water reflected through rippling cascades, framed with gentle precision.

"When I first saw the collection, I knew I wanted the hair direction to reflect it. The shapes in the fabrics, the beautiful movement, and the way everything was so organically draped - it was exactly what I wanted to bring to life through the hair. The first thing that came to mind when I saw the collection was fluidity and freedom. I noticed how everything flowed so effortlessly; structured yet unstructured.
Hair can be very meticulous. Something that looks effortless acturally takes a great deal of work and preparation. We used plenty of the O&M Frizzy Logic Shine Serum to achieve that wet-hair look, sealing it with the O&M W-Spray, which still allowed for movement and texture. We wanted to achieve that wet plunge look without it appearing slick or oily, creating beautiful, architectural waves through the hair."

Victoria Baron, Makeup Director for Weleda evokes the impression of water through a beauty look that cpatures the subtle gestures of fluid forms moving through the light.

"Bianca Spender has always embraced a sophisticated and considered approach to shape and form. This collection, inspired by moevment and water, paired beautifully with the glow and texture that Weleda skincare creates. I wanted the skin to feel as though it had just emerged from water, allowing light to move beautifully across the face and skin. Skin was prepped and nourished with Weleda skincare, then lightly refined. Around the eyes, there is a soft worn-in cream tone and curled lashes.
Lips brought a sense of structure. The upper lip was gently defined, while the lower lip was softened and diffused to reveal a touch of natural tone. Skin Food Lip Balm was applied jsut to the centre of the lower lip for a subtle hit of hydration and light. Some models wore a custom lip shade created specifically for them, while others were kept bare to let their natural skin and features speak."
