Sharing her expertise on sustainability, Bianca Spender was invited to join the Sydney Festival and The Australian Museum for their 'In The Wake of Change' panel conversation. Joined by industry leaders, Dr Edwina Throsby of The ABC, Amy Low of The Social Outfit and Valentina Zarew, New Romantic, the discussion centred on sustainability in fashion, today and tomorrow, and ethical business practices within the industry.
The leaders in their respective industries discussed their tangible actions to support the environment and lighten the impact of fashion manufacturing on the planet and community.
Read on to discover the ways in which Bianca Spender proudly champions sustainability and ethics within the fashion industry.

USE EXISTING RESOURCES
Bianca Spender was founded on sustainable practices and deep respect for the environment. In recent years Bianca's design process has seen massive change as she strives toward using more and more materials that are already produced. Deadstock, or remnant fabric is an existing material that has been overproduced or over-ordered globally and is destined for landfill. Bianca seeks out these fabrics and uses the available resources to inform the collections you know and love.
Over 50% of the styles within each range are made from remnant fabric, and our opening runway collection at Australian Fashion Week 2022 was comprised of over 80% remnant fabrics and was a no-waste production.
INVEST IN QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY
We believe in investing in quality pieces, to last you a lifetime. Each season Bianca designs a considered collection of timeless pieces that are intricately developed to seamlessly flow, season after season. Not influenced by trends, our pieces are designed to be worn in a variety of ways for years to come and are produced in very limited numbers.
The fabrics we choose are highly considered, taking into consideration wear and washability. We believe in the longevity of our designs and encourage our community to repair, reuse and wear their pieces.
COUNT YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT
As a carbon-neutral accredited organisation, we are continuously striving to reduce our carbon footprint and impact on the earth. Investing in sustainable fashion, being conscious of your buying habits, choosing to walk or take public transport and buying from local artisans are some ways in which you can reduce your own carbon emissions.
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY
Bianca Spender has been proudly 100% Australian-made since its' inception in 2008 and has been a strong supporter of local production. We work with a small group of local manufacturers who are all Ethical Clothing Australia accredited, to ensure all workers are being paid fairly and are in ethical working environments. The shorter supply chain reduces the impact on the earth and working with smaller, specialist makers reduces product waste.
